I am a 66-year-old male on a total disability pension from the early 1991-1992.

My last tax return would have been lodged some time in the early 1990's.

I have moved addresses and states several times in the intervening 30-something years and have absolutely no idea what my TFN is or was and I'm finding it almost impossible to find a solution. I keep getting asked for the date of my last return, (no idea), the amount of my last return, (no idea) the bank account the refund was paid into, (no idea), and other verifying questions to which I have not the slightest answer to.

I am being charged “Resident Withhold Tax on Interest Paid from my financial institution because I haven't given them my TFN.

Can you please advise me on how I can recover my 30-year-old TFN?

Hi @Alanrlow,

Sorry you're having trouble getting your TFN over the phone.

The information we use for questions to verify your identity come from old tax returns so our info on you is certainly not up-to-date!

We have a TFN enquiry form you could use. Best of luck!
