Kindly let me know if I could claim my subscription fees for an online US medical resource and Grammarly that I use 100% for my self-education to improve specific skills and knowledge I require for my current work activities and will likely increase my income. Self-education means a course of study provided by an educational institution, so you could only claim as self-ed if the expenses related to a formal course of study related to your employment. The expenses may be claimable as ordinary work-related expenses if there was sufficient connection between the expense and your employment. A letter of confirmation from your employer would help. On the other hand, ATO has often rejected such claims on the basis that the expenses are not required by other employees doing the same work - and are therefore not necessary.
