I have been filing tax returns for 5 years now, and only for the first time I am seeing this -

Apr 2023 – Jun 2023 Quarterly PAYG instalment notice

I don't understand what this Quarterly PAYG instalment notice is as I have never seen this show up on my ATO account before.

I work on TFN payg for past 5 years, and for the first time I worked on ABN as a sole trader, as well as on PAYG TFN for the FY 2021-2022.

Is it because of that - I am seeing this? I saw this notification first time in May 2023 and I ignored it thinking it may disappear itself. But now it is showing a debt I have to pay to ATO. I don't understand this.

I received a notification in MyGov inbox as well -

Australian Taxation Office

Act now - You have an overdue tax debt

Can someone please explain and refer to a good tax agent(who can help in amending FY 2021-2022 return if that's needed)

Hello @Ddmelb,

You should check your communication history in ATO Online Services. When you are entered into the PAYG installment system we send you a letter explaining why you were entered and what you need to do to manage the obligation. The PAYG installments are for people in business so they can put aside money to cover there future income tax obligation. So the reason you were entered was most likely due to the sole trader income that you reported in your last return. You can should check out the PAYG installment page as it includes several introductory videos explaining the situation.

thanks, that makes sense. I could find it in my communication history, and found out that since I had business income mentioned last year - hence I need to pay PAYG installment this year
