I'm trying to find out how I notify the ATO that my Pty Ltd company has paid me a dividend as the Company Director. Is there a form that needs to be completed?

I am paid a regular salary and this is the first time I have paid a dividend. The dividend comes from previous financial year profits and the company was profit this financial year too. The dividends are fully franked from FY21 at 26% and FY22 at 25%.

I have been drected by my STP provider to register these as director fees, but they aren't director fees.

Any help would be appreciated. I found this information on a Franking Account Tax Return, but have been told that this is not relevant to my situation -https://www.ato.gov.au/Forms/Franking-account-tax-return-and-instructions-2023/?page=2#About_these_instructions.

You should have a good discussion with an experienced accountant.

S/he will explain that STP has nothing to do with dividends, and also that dividends get reported to ATO when the tax return for the company is prepared and lodged.

After the company tax return is lodged, ATO will then "prefill" the dividend details into the tax returns of the shareholders who received the dividends.

As the company tax return for FY 2023 might not be lodged until May of 2024, this "prefill" often becomes "backfill".

You may well ask, "What could possibly go wrong ?".

Thanks @Peter_Clyne

My tax agent appears to be experienced but was unsure.

And yes that delay could cause some issues, luckily it is only me so I can submit my personal tax return once the company has submitted theirs.
