I have been calling the ato for a linking code to connect my mygov to the ato, i have never lodged a tax return before so i cannot answer the 2 secret questions to get in. is there any other way i can get in without a linking code?

I know how expensive and frustrating this can be. If you'd like a linking code, you'll need to talk to us.
You've another option. If there aren't enough questions for you to answer, it's most likely because you haven't lodged a tax return before. If you were to lodge using the paper form, it'll create questions from the information for you to answer.
You might want to try 8.00AM when our phone lines open.

You can change the log in settings. If you go to the settings tab in my gov and change it from questions to code generator, you can link that way.

@ChantelleATO I have linked mygov code generator to my gov but its still asking me to give them 2 shared secrets with the ato, the ato do not have my information because this is the first financial year i have paid tax. The ato do not pick up the phone and the only other option is to get a linking code.
I am facing the same issue. I worked for only 7 months past year on a Working Holiday visum which has expired by now. therefore I assume the ato cannot link my details. everytime I get the folllowing error code (APS104).
Would appreciate some assistance but ATO wont pick up the phone and the calling cost are rising as from an other country.

A linking code can be used to link your record if you are unable to provide the details required. You can get a linking code by calling us on [removed by moderator] and answering some questions to prove who you are.
I tried calling but no one would pick up the phone, ( yes I called to the different number for people calling from overseas )

I have been trying to help my son get a linking code since end of July - this is ridiculous - now October and the ATO line still says its busy and hangs up. My son is not in front of his computer at 8am in the mornings - he is working. there has got to be a better way.

There is no other way other than having your son verify themselves over the phone with a MyGov agent in order to release the linking code. We appreciate the fact your son is working and if they are unable to find the time to make the call, they can complete the paper copy of the return.
