If my surname changed since I last lodged a TFN Declaration with an employer, do I need to submit a change of name form to the ATO alongside the TFN Declaration when applying for a new job? Or will the ATO be able to see the name change via other government services such as Centrelink/Medicare (where the name has now been updated)?

Hello there @anessavay,

We won't have information on your change of name unless you told us and let us verify a document to confirm it. Changes of name do not flow through to us from other government departments.

If your Mygov account is linked to the ATO you can change your name online.

If you don't have access to online services you will need to update your name by post. You can do this using a change of details for individuals form.
