The ATO guidelines suggests that can claim up to 5,000km.

  • You can claim a maximum of 5,000 work-related kilometres per car.

What is the tax treatment for the greater than 5,000km.

Hi @Monica Bean,


Under the cents per km method the maximum you can claim is up to 5,000 km. You might want to look at alternative method such as logbook.


Using the logbook method will allow you to claim above the 5,000km.


You can read in more detail about the logbook method as to what records you need to keep and how to work out how much to claim.
