I currently receive a fortnightly payment of youth allowance and I study fulltime at a university. There is a 10% tax dedution that is sent to the ATO from each of my fortnightly payments. I don’t earn enough in my casual job for my total income (including my youth allowance payments) to earn over the threshold. How do I claim this tax money back? I have one casual job, I don't know how to fill out a tax return to get my youth allowance deductions back.
Hello @jbugsy,
If you’re under the tax-free threshold you’ll need to lodge a tax return to claim back your overpaid tax as a refund.
If you wish to prepare the return and lodge it yourself, this page from our website on Lodging your tax return will guide you through all the steps you need to take.
If you need help lodging your tax return you may find this link to our Tax Help program useful. Tax Help is a network of ATO-trained and accredited community volunteers who provide a free and confidential service to help people complete their tax returns online using myTax.
