I am a private piano teacher with an ABN and I am teaching piano at my home studio. I use a lot of music related games during my lessons so I subscribed to a number of sources that provide music games for students to play. I am also subscribing to a piano teacher teaching website which has discussion, courses and support to piano teachers. Can I claim these subscription fees as tax deductions in my tax return?
Hi @WendyL,
Deductions are usually self-assessed, so first of all I'd recommend checking out the criteria for claiming work-related expenses. This guide on what teachers can claim can help you out.
For the teaching website, that sounds like it would fit into self-education, so I'd recommend looking at our information on self-education expenses to see if the courses are able to be claimed.

Thank you! That's very helpful.
I am thinking to rent a place to teach as my home has limited space to fit a piano and all the teaching materials. Is the rent that I pay tax deductible please?
