My Tax return 2023 has been stuck at Balancing account with a credit refund. Processed date was 7 July 2023 and effective date was 14 July 2023. I tried calling ATO and one time they told me that it has been processed and the money has been transferred into my account will show in 2-3 days which never did so i called again and they said that everything is fine just need some manual processing done. and that they will escalate it to be processed faster. now another week has gone by and still no update.

When your tax return status states in progress - we are balancing the result of your tax return with you accounts with us and other Australian government agencies. By calculating the amount, we will refund, or you need to pay. We will contact you if we need more information.
Even though it's been escalated it can still take time.
Hopefully, your return will be processed shortly.

Similar scenario with mine although your process is taking longer than mine.
ATO should do away with time estimates and just say we will do it when we bloody well feel like it.

I apologise Catherine made a mistake and I will correct her post so that noone else is confused.
We are here to provide as much general informatoin as we have. We don't have system access to check on your return but we try to let you know all the possibilities to help you as much as we can. We know its frustraing and time consuming to call us and that is why we give you all the information we have.
So what we can assume is that your return has been taken off line to check the information in it, as soon as it's verified it will be released. As we are often waiting on responses from organisations outside the ATO such as banks, employers, services Australia and investments this can take a long time and this is why we can't give you an exact timeframe of when it will be finalised.
During the processing if we need more information from you we will contact you.
