I am the sole income earner for my family. My spouse cannot work because of health issues but cannot claim any govt. benefits due to my income. My adult child lives with me and is studying full time at university and also cannot claim any benefits due to my income. My income is just over $120k per annum. A good income, but to support three adults it doesn't go very far. Why can't I get any rebates, offsets or allowances?? Am I missing something?
I can definately hear what you're saying for sure, full respect for your position in this situation.
Out of all offsets i've seen maybe these ones would possibly be available to you, it's a shame the spouse offset is no longer though! (The dependent spouse tax offset was abolished from 1 July 2014 and was only available for spouses born before 1 July 1952 from 1 July 2012.)
- The invalid and invalid carer tax offset is only available for taxpayers who maintain a dependant who is unable to work due to invalidity or carer obligations.
- The seniors and pensioners tax offset is only available for taxpayers who meet certain age and income tests.
- The Family Tax Benefit Part A is only available for children under 18 or under 25 if they are studying full-time,
Are these something you may be entilted to, you think?

There are no claims to be made for them.

Thanks so much for your reply, my understanding is in order for me to be able to claim a tax offset for my invalid spouse, they need to qualify for a disability pension, which they don't because of my income. So far all I can find is financial incentive to kick my kid to the curb and get a divorce!
Hi @poly , not a lot of help but unless you have private health covering (PHC) all dependants I'd suggest keeping one of them around to avoid the Medicare levy surcharge. Need to weigh up the cost of keep vs the MLS-PHC.
