Hello,
I am seeking guidance on how to access superannuation that may have been transferred from my former Rest Super account to the ATO.
I am a New Zealand citizen who lived and worked in Australia between 2005 and 2011 on an SCV 444. I now live in the United Kingdom. I have a long‑term diagnosed mental health condition (schizophrenia) and I am not working due to permanent incapacity.
I would appreciate help with the following:
- How can I confirm whether the ATO currently holds any superannuation in my name?
- If the ATO does hold my super, what is the correct process to apply for early release on permanent incapacity grounds as a non‑resident New Zealand citizen?
- Does the early‑release claim need to be made directly through the ATO, or must the balance be rolled back to a super fund first?
- Where can I find the relevant forms, instructions, and ID requirements for overseas applicants?
I will be back in the UK and available to take calls from 6 April onwards, but I am happy to receive written guidance here in the meantime.
Thank you for your assistance.
