You’ve applied for a TFN and accidentally listed the address of a hostel you planned to stay at, but you later moved to a nearby hostel. You’re asking whether you need to update your address, or whether it’s okay for the TFN letter to be sent to the original hostel address. If we’ve misunderstood, please let us know.
Answer:
If your TFN application has already been submitted, you won’t need to take any action if the original hostel address is still able to receive mail for you. TFN letters are sent by post, so the main risk is whether the letter can be safely collected.
If you’re concerned the letter won’t reach you at the original address, you can call us to:
check whether the TFN has already been issued
ask about updating your address (depending on where the application is up to).
Once you receive your TFN, you can update your address details through ATO online services if needed.
If the letter is returned to us or you don’t receive it, you can call us and we can re‑issue the TFN letter.
