I'm finding this page difficult to interpret: https://www.ato.gov.au/individuals-and-families/super-for-individuals-and-families/super/growing-and-keeping-track-of-your-super/how-to-save-more-in-your-super/spouse-super-contributions

Two things are shown here that I'm interested in:

  • I can apply for a "contributions-splitting super benefit" to share my super with my spouse, but this is "not a new contribution for them"
  • Some contributions to my spouse's super will allow me to claim a tax offset of up to $540 per year

If I split my employer contributions with my spouse, am I eligible for the tax offset? The page runs these together like they're related, but it also says the first one is not actually a contribution.
