Yeah, i'm not writing a letter and putting it in the post. That's ridiculous.

As a disabled person, I have a right to access information and communications on an equal basis with others. Under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031, organisations are required to provide reasonable adjustments to facilitate this.

Communicating with a government agency via physical post about potentially time sensitive matters is not an 'equal basis'. It is fundamentally different in nature to email (or other secure electronic messaging options) both in the time it takes for the communication to be received, processed and responded to and the physical barriers and effort involved in communicating in this manner.

But anyway, thanks for the suggestion. 👍

Hi @thisisausername,

We understand that communicating only by post can create barriers for some people, especially where matters are time‑sensitive or where disability affects access. We work to ensure everyone can access our services, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.

However, we can’t communicate with individual taxpayers by email. Email isn’t a secure way to send or receive personal tax information, and we’re required to protect your privacy and meet security and identity‑verification requirements. For this reason, the standard ways to contact us are by phone or in writing (such as post).

If you use myTax through myGov, you may also access Live chat during your tax return for general myTax help.

If you feel your access needs haven’t been properly considered, or you prefer to raise this in writing, you can lodge an online complaint using our website form. Once received, we’ll review it and contact you to discuss next steps.
