An employee for one of my clients was a foreign resident and closed his super account a couple of days prior to the last super deadline. His funds have been returned to us and he no longer has a super account. Is our only option to fill in the the SGS statement and pay the interest and admin fee. If so does the employee then neesd to contact the ATO to receive his funds?

Hi @JeffS64,
Yes, you’ll need to lodge a super guarantee charge (SGC) statement and pay the SGC to us. The SGC includes the super shortfall, interest and an administration fee, which are all paid to us as part of the SGC. There are 3 ways to lodge the SGC statement form.
Once the SGC is processed, the employee will need to contact us to discuss how their entitlement is handled, as they no longer have an active super account. How the amount is paid will depend on their circumstances, including whether they’re a foreign resident.
The employee can also check their super details or contact us through their myGov account if they need assistance.
Thank You. I have lodged through Agents Portal, do i pay striaght away or wait for a confirmation?
Hi @JeffS64,
You can pay straight away, using the payment reference number provided when the SGC statement was lodged. The SGC payment is due by the date shown when you lodge the statement.
If you don’t have the reference number or want to confirm the amount payable, you can check this through the Agent Portal or give us a call for the info.
