Hello Everyone,

I have been living in Sweden for the past 10 years but am an Australian citizen. In 2025 I earned some fully franked dividends paid into my Australian bank account. I will need to report these dividends in Sweden where they may be taxed. Do I also need to pay tax on them in Australia as well? How would I calculate this? As I understand it, the franking credit cannot be used as I am a non-resident but how does that impact my taxation in Australia?

Further, do I also need to report my Swedish income in Australia as well, since I have received income in both countries during 2025?

Thank you for your help!

If franked dividends are your sole Australian-sourced income then a tax return is not required.

From ATO

".. if the only income you earned was dividend income which was a fully franked dividend or an unfranked amount of a dividend which either has withholding tax deducted or declared to be conduit foreign income, you do not need to lodge an Australian tax return."

Dividends and non-resident companies and shareholders | Australian Taxation Office

Foreign residents don't report foreign-sourced income on an Australian tax return. (this would be your Swedish income)

I am assuming you don't have a HELP debt (student loan). Different rules apply if you do.
