You'll likely need to apply for a new ABN. This is because you can't change an existing ABN from one business structure to another.
An ABN is linked to a specific entity and its business structure, so when you change from a non-incorporated structure (like a sole trader or partnership) to an incorporated structure (like a company), you need to apply for a new ABN for the company.
The company is a separate legal entity with its own tax file number and ABN. You'll need to apply for an ABN for your company through the Australian Business Register (ABR). If you had an ABN for your previous non-incorporated business, that ABN will remain linked to the old structure and you may choose to cancel it if you're no longer operating that business.
