Hi @Champh,
You don’t necessarily need an Australian passport to access your myGov account. I can help break it down for you.
While myID is a secure way to sign in, you don’t have to use it.
You can still log in directly through the myGov website using your myGov sign‑in details, which are:
- your username and password, and
- a security code sent to your Australian mobile phone.
If you do use myID, there are different identity strengths you can set up, based on what you can provide. To reach a strong identity strength (which is required when accessing your ATO Online services linked to your myGov account) then yes, a passport is required unless you're located in Western Australia (WA) and have a WA drivers' licence.
Each government service has its own minimum identity strength required, which is why you may now be seeing different access requirements compared to before. We do have an article about accessing ATO Online Services with digital ID. It may help you understand myID a little more.
If you’re still having trouble accessing your account, you can phone our individual line for further help.
