Hi,

We have new estate trust established this financial year 2025. And their tax return due date was at 03/03/2026. Is there any chance we could change their due date to 15 May 2026?

Hi @Ramdam,

The due date for the trust tax return is based on lodgment program rules and can’t be changed. For new estate trusts registered in the 2024–25 financial year, the standard due date is 28 February 2026. The 3 March 2026 date you mentioned might be because 28 February falls on a weekend.

The 15 May 2026 due date only applies to trusts that aren’t new registrants and don’t have earlier due dates. New registrant trusts must lodge by 28 February 2026 unless they’re classified as large or medium trusts (with annual total income over $10 million). Large or medium trusts have a due date of 28 February 2026.

If you’re a registered tax agent, you may qualify for a 5 June 2026 concession for returns due on 15 May 2026. However, this doesn’t apply to new registrant trusts or those with earlier due dates like 28 February 2026.

You can check the registered agent lodgment program for more details. If you need more time, you can apply for a deferral through your tax agent portal or contact us directly.
