I separated from my wife and we are living separately. The separation occurred about halfway through the financial year. We are not yet divorced. Is she still my spouse for tax purposes for the full financial year?

Hi @Mynameisjeff,

As @Taxduck mentioned, whether someone is your spouse for tax purposes depends on your circumstances during the income year.

If you separated part-way through the financial year and were living separately, you would generally be treated as having had a spouse for part of the year and not having a spouse for the remainder of the year.

You don't need to be divorced for the separation to be recognised for tax purposes. The article @Taxduck linked explains how to complete your tax return when your spouse details change during the year.
