Hi,

I am wanting to do my 25/26 tax return but my income total amount is incorrect. My employer changed from sole trader to a trust in 2025 so my current income says I’ve been paid by the trust (which is the correct amount) but also from the sole trader (which was my income last year) but both say they are for this financial year, so it looks like my income is double what it actually was. I’ve told my employer about this but they are unsure why this has happened. What are my next steps from here? Thanks :)

Hi @Leia,

Your employer needs to correct the income reporting issue with us. The sole trader entity should not have reported income for the 2025-26 financial year if you were only paid by the trust during this period. When your employer changed their business structure from a sole trader to a trust, only the trust should report your 2025-26 income.

Contact your employer again and explain that they need to correct the income reporting with us directly. Once the correction is made, you'll be able to lodge your tax return with the correct income amount.
