I recevied a cheque from ATO, however the name on the cheque is not the full name as in my passport and I was not able to bank in the cheque. What can I do? How to request ATO to issue a revised cheque in the name as my passport or I need to get a tax agent to help?

Hi @KCHK,

You'll need to phone us to have your refund cheque reissued with the correct name details. We need to verify your identity and arrange for a new cheque to be issued to match your passport name.

When you call, have your original cheque ready along with your tax file number and passport. If your name on our records is different from your current legal name, you'll need to provide evidence supporting the name change so we can update your details.

You don't need a tax agent to help with this - you can contact us directly.

Where eligible, we may be able to arrange payment directly to an Australian bank account in your name, which is generally faster and more secure. Otherwise, a replacement cheque can be issued to your postal address once your details have been confirmed.

Phone the ATO directly to see if they can cancel that cheque and issue a new one under your full name. The alternative may be to have the ATP transfer the funds to an nominated bank account.
