I filed my tax on 16 July, on 19 July it was updated to "Under Review", after 12 business days I called the ATO to find out more info.

It was only on business day 13 that I heard from a case officer. I supplied documents a week later but my case officer was on annual leave.

After multiple phone calls , voicemails and emails, I finally heard from someone ( a supervisor) , who informed me that my case would only be attended to when the original case officer returned from leave on 22 August (in accordance with their exisiting priorities).

The supervisor also informed me they were going on leave.

At this point I asked for a SLA on reviews and was informed that it is 90 days?

Has anyone else been affected by this?

It has now been 1 month and 1 week since I filed my tax, at this point I feel like the ATO will continue to drag this out instead of promptly paying my tax return.

Hi @Subash_14,

We understand it must be frustrating for you waiting for your refund. Once it's been assigned a case office it is only that case officer that will deal with the review.

The service standard can also depend on the complexity of the case. Each case is different it can take up to the 90 days or it can be actioned sooner.

Hopefully now they are back from holidays they are working on reviewing your tax return and seeking the information they need to process it.

It is more than frustrating.

It is quite clear the ATO is either understaffed or does not have clear processes on how to manage returns in a prompt and efficient manner.

It’s more than frustrating, the robotic npc responses here, no news, nothing and the ATO is screwing people over financially because people are waiting/relying on their tax return.
