The easiest way to check this is to access ATO Online Services in myGov and then go to the tax accounts section. If you click on each account it will take you to the statement of account which should show if we have sent any refunds to you.
You can also check the communication history to see if there are any letters waiting for you explaining the situation. There are many reasons you may receive an extra refund after a return.
One of the most common is if you have paid off a HELP debt yet it was still raised in your return. Once finalised it goes to the HELP debt account and then we eventually transfer it out and refund the excess credit to you.
It could also be because we corrected something on the return which may have been incorrect.
