I attempted to verify my identity multiple time using different documents. However, none seem to work. I'm located outside Australia and tried calling the Overseas number for support with Digital Identity, but the call keeps dropping while on hold.


I have a suspicion that it may have to do with my VIC Birth Certificate. I have a non-English letter in my married name. For my Driver's Licence and Passport, this letter has been transliterated to 2 English letters.


Due to this, I also cannot link my ATO account because I get this error:


"Details provided do not match ATO records - 2 attempts remaining

Check your ATO record opens in new window matches your digital identity. Error code: PAB.BR.0005"


It might still have my unmarried name, but I also think the address might not match because ATO has my overseas address and you only have the option to input an Australian address.


Some expert help would be greatly appreciated. I've spent so much time and money trying to get help from overseas.

Hey @tiroli,


We understand that this must be frustrating. Your name, address and date of birth do have to match across everything because we need to make sure you're you. The details on your identity documents also need to match our records. The error that you're getting does mean that they don't match.


The first step you may need to take is updating your details with us. You can do this by sending us the change of details for individuals form. Once we have this, we'll be able to update your ATO record to match the details on your documents. When this has been done you should be able to link your MyGov account to us.

Hi Anita,


There is a function to update those details online with the ATO, but my name on my Birth Certificate and my name on Passport differ. The address doesn't match because the ATO recorded address is foreign. And the field only allows Australian addresses. I actually can't put the correct information in because the system won't let me.


I spoke to someone on the phone on the OS Number previously from the ATO about this, and they had confirmed over the phone that my details have been updated to reflect the changes.


I also visited an ATO/Centrelink and provided my documentation (passport and birth-certificate) in-person when I briefly visited Australia back in February. My Centrelink details updated, and my ATO details also temporarily updated for a few months, then reverted back to outdated details for whatever reason.


In this time where it was still temp updated, I submitted my most recent Tax Return with my correct details, but still got my Tax Notification in my old details. I called again on the OS number and I was advised to close my MyGov account, and create a new MyGov account to maybe have everything set up in the new name and the system should pick it up.


I did this, and now I'm in this situation right now with my ATO unlinked. My Centrelink linked just fine.


Is there a way to correct this, online, via email or with a number that works? This is getting a bit too complex. I need my my recent tax notification in my current details and have other ATO enquires I can't solve until this issue is resolved.


The OS Number I used to contact previously keeps dropping now. I'm contacting from Germany. I want to avoid posting my ID documents at all costs since they took so long and cost a bunch to get here in the first place.

Hey @tiroli,


Can you confirm when you last had interactions with us before this matter? Have you lodged a return within the last 3yrs at all? It may be an issue related to your record being 'frozen' if you've had no activity with us, which is standard procedure. Once we can eliminate this, we can try a few other suggestions.

Hi Catherine!


I actually lodged my most recent tax return via MyTax online. I honestly can't recall when exactly I had those interactions. It would have been once when I updated my details in Feb/Mar, and again in July to update the details since the lodgement receipt had incorrect details...
