My amended tax return has been stuck in one status “in progress processing” for over three weeks now. This has never happened before. I also recieved a text message from ato a few days ago advising that my tax return is taking a little longer and not to call that they will contact me if they need additional information. Does anyone know why this would be?

There are a variety of reasons as to why this may be happening. In most cases we may be checking information or something may have happened while it was being processed that required someone to manually check it. This isn't something to be worried about it happens all the time. I would suggest however that every couple of days just checking your communication history online to make sure you don't miss any correspondence we may send you.

Would the correspondence be sent via the my gov inbox?

Yes, we most likely will send a request for additional information for example to your myGov inbox.
