Hello,

i recently came back from my gap year in Australia. I was there on a WHV and now I tried to do my tax return. I couldn‘t link my mygov account to the ATO by myself so I called the ATO to get a linking code. I gave the lady on the phone all the information she needed: my name, my date of birth, my passport number and so on. But she told me I can‘t verify with my passport, because it doesn‘t work in their system.

I have no idea what the problem could be because we checked all my information four times and everything was correct and my passport is still valid. Unfortunately, the passport is the only document that works for foreigners. The lady also told me that she has no idea what the problem could be. Can anyone help me? Thank you very much!

Hey @Cosmo,

We understand this must be frustrating for you. If you've left Australia, we'll no longer be able to verify your visa.

There are other ways you can lodge your tax return. You can use a registered agent, or you can lodge a paper tax return.
