Hi! I just talked to the live chat on the ATO website and they helped me figure this out. They said:
To add Foreign employment income (on an income statement/payment summary) go to screen 3 (Personalise return) and select the checkbox You received salary, wages or other income on an income statement/payment summary, Australian Government payments or First home super saver (FHSS) scheme payment.
Under that, select Foreign employment income (on an income statement/payment summary).
Once you have completed screen 3 select Next at the bottom of the screen.
On screen 4 (Prepare return), locate Income statements and payment summaries and select Add/Edit. On the next screen select Add next to Foreign employment income.
Oh thanks for letting me know - seeing we haven't had a response from the ATO here! It's different to what I thought though, as I didn't think it was considered foreign income for tax purposes since we're not paying tax in the US. Did they explain that to you?
Also, did they say what needs to be included on the payment summary that you upload? (because like you, I invoice my employer monthly and don't receive an annual payment summary)
