I keep getting mail in ATO online services asking me to check my bank details are up to date. This takes me to 'Financial Institutions account'. It has the details of my Statement Saving account correct, but lists a second account as "Superannuation". I'm not sure if this is supposed to be the details of my superannuation account, or if it's for my Smart Savings bank account I opened in the previous financial year.

There is annoyingly little information about which it should be, how to edit or add information, or how to contact the ATO for help. I added the details of the Smart Savings account, but am unsure if this is correct. I tried phoning and emailing the ATO to no avail, so settled for creating this account here, which is stupid.

Hello @Edtherobot,

When you add financial institution details its for you to add the account where you want your refunds to go to. Normally we only send are your bank details correct letters if you have had a bank account which we have not been able to refund into. The other reason is you have a credit in one of your accounts and we have not been able to initiate a refund since bank details aren't associated with that account. You should check out the update your financial institution details page if you need assistance adding them. The two main accounts to make sure you bank details are added to are the income tax account and the integrated client account.

Thanks, I don't know what an Integrated Client account is, but I don't believe I have one. I have a Smart Saver account which is separate to my Statement Savings Account. It accrues credit each month if the account contains more money by the end of the month than at the beginning of the month. I think this means what you mentioned with credits not being able to initiate refund?

Though I'm confused why it was automatically called "Superannuation 002" by the ATO. If the ATO is trying to ask where I want my Super refunds to go to, the answer is my Statement Savings account. In that case, do I place the details for this account twice, once for Income Tax account and once for Supperanuatio n 002 account?

Hi @edtherobot,

The names you see are names we have for different accounts.

The Super002 account is for any super monies we may receive on your behalf that we hold for you.

The Integrated client account is the name we refer to for Business funds. The Income tax account is for any related income tax funds sit there.

If we're asking you to update the bank details, you should be okay to add the smart saver without issue. By adding it to your Super002 account, you're allowing us to send any super related funds to that bank account.
