My visa status changed from a Temporary Skill Visa (482) to a Permanent Employer Sponsored or Nominated Visa (186) last year. The Permanent Visa was granted in August 2023, but the application process began in October 2022. I received a temporary Medicare card in November 2022 (interim medicare card) but I didn't have the full rights of medicare.

I am unsure whether I am still eligible for Medicare levy exemption during the application process from October 2022 to August 2023. Thanks in advance.

Good Afternoon,

From this link (https://www.ato.gov.au/Individuals/Medicare-and-private-health-insurance/Medicare-levy/Medicare-levy-exemption/Not-entitled-to-Medicare-benefits/) it appears that you can use the medicare levy exemption if you have a medicare entitlement statement from services Australia because you were a temporary resident for medicare purposes without dependants/dependants also exempt.

Have you applied for this medicare entitlement statement? It can be obtained from Services Australia

Thanks Brad 😄

I did applied for the medicare entitlement statement, but it taking too long and I need to do my tax return. I just want to know from which date I wasn't any more a temporary resident for medicare purposes, if it is the date my bridging visa started just after the application or the PR visa granted date.

Thanks,

elena
