I lodged my tax return electronically on the 5th of August, have received 2 notifications, one on the 18/8 and another on the 4/9 to say that my return was taking extra time to process/required manual processing. It has now been another 5 weeks and I have had no further updates regarding my situation and after continually checking the progress tab on mygov, nothing has changed. Is there a way to find out what more needs to be checked or get another update ? Because whilst I appreciate that manually checking a tax return can potentially be time consuming, it has been over 2 months since my original lodgement and I have had no updates in the last 4 weeks, both of which seem excessive amounts of time to have very little information or updates regarding my situation.
Hey @bennyjay173,
It does seem like a while; we get that you'll be wanting it done asap.
Have you spoken to our lodgement team regarding this recently? We can determine what is the issue and what you are required to do, if anything!
If you're expecting a refund and you need it urgently you can ask us if we can prioritise your return if you your situation fits our criteria. Hit the link to find out more.

I rang the ato number last Friday and it actively discourages people making requests regarding the progress of their tax return (which I understand because under normal circumstances this information would be changed in a timely manner on the lodgments section of ato/mygov). It ended up just giving me the option to speak to an operator if I believed there was an error with my contact details (which there isnt) or to hang up once it had given me the information. What would be the correct pathway to talk to someone in the lodgments team regarding my issue ? Thank you for your response :)
Hey @bennyjay173,
That's the right pathway. The recording is standard and you should continue to hold on and speak with the team.
Hello CatherineATO,
I too have had the same experience- my return has been Manually processing since the 5th of August and I have received two text messages telling me it will take extra time- and when I rang I also got the option to stay on the line if I believed my contact details were wrong (which they were not). So am I reading this that we can stay on that line even if our details are correct and that is how we speak to someone?
Hey @Reneesj,
Yes, stay on the line if you're wanting to speak to us. We're asking if your contact details are correct because if we need more info from you we'll be in touch.
