I am a psychologist and planning to purchase a dog for use in my business - therapy dog. It will attend my practice 5 days a week. Can I claim the cost of the dog and associated expenses under my business?
Hi,
There is a very fine line to walk here but there is precedent for a dog to be tax deductible. (Think security dogs)
IMO, You will need to show that the dog is specially trained and has an active documented part of your therapy program.
The associated expenses would be claimable.
The initial cost of the dog is a capital expense and decline in value can be claimed.
