Hi ATO Community, I am from Vietnamese background, and when I obtained my Australian citizenship, the citizenship officer put a different name order of my name on the citizenship certificate. This has prompted me to change all my other documents to match the new name order, such as my driver license, passport, bank etc. I want to change my name order on ATO to match this new order for verification purpose, how do I do that? Also I would like to clarify that I didn't initiate a name change, so I didn't apply for a name change certificate.
Hey @claratran,
This has put you in a bit of a sticky situation! It's going to make it difficult to change your name with us without one of the correct identity documents showing your correct legal name.
How about your foreign identity documents, do they have the correct legal name on them? Do they show your name in the same order as your citizenship certificate. If they're showing the same, then may be able to update your name by post with us.
Did you speak to the issuing agency about your name being incorrect on your citizenship certificate? Is it possible for them to update it to reflect your correct legal name?
