Hi,

I have an 18-year-old daughter who needs to lodge her first income tax return. We are trying to help her out but we are having trouble linking her MyGov with ATO. The website is asking to confirm identity by providing 2 of 5 pieces of information like bank account details, Centrelink payment summary, dividends statement, a notice of assessment, or PAYG payment summary. It used to have superannuation on the list but it's no longer there.

So we tried filling out the bank details and superannuation since it's the only information we have but it does not recognize the bank account details.

Tonight we tried again after we had set up her MyGov ID thinking this would help support her identity but still we are asked to provide 2 out of the 5 items above. Now we are left with only Bank account details which are not even recognized by the system even though it's the only account she used for her salary from KFC.

Is there any other way to link MyGov with ATO with limited info? Any help would be much appreciated. The new system is so confusing.

Hi @jezel,

Your daughter is very lucky to have you to help her.

You're right, we've recently moved the ability to use superannuation information.

This does happen when we don't have bank account details recorded against a TFN. This will happen when she lodges her first tax return and lets us know where she'd like her refund deposited if she's due one.

There's an alternative option of getting a linking code. It's provided under the instructions on how to link.
