I came to Australia for a job in late Feb and started work at a research position on 1st March. Initially I came on a 417 working holiday visa. I was then granted a 408 research visa in late April.
I understand the amount of tax I pay changes depending on whether I'm on a working holiday visa or not. My question is does my tax status change from working holiday maker to something else from when my 408 visa was granted?

I understand with the changes to your visa why you would be unsure about what happens on the tax side of things.
You may be relieved to find out that we tax you based on your tax residency. Most people that come to Australia on a WHM visa are foreign residents for tax purposes. That means that when you change from a WHM visa to the 408 pandemic event visa. The 15% tax rate will still apply.
