Hi All,

My wife and I run a business. There is a conference overseas we want to go to, to expand our business. We have two young kids (4,8) who we won't be able to leave at home. If we take them, can we still claim their airfares, meals, and accomodation in the business expense?

Hi

Unfortunately no , You won’t be able to claim the kids portion of the travel.

You will also need to keep a diary to show what portion of the activities were work related and what portion were family holiday activities (if any)

what about the living-away-from-home allowance?

As it does mention family and children.

So my understanding is, that any expenses that cover travel and accommodation, and food with all receipts provided will be covered.

There is a weekly allowed amount of food, but if it is reasonable and receipts are provided, it can go over that amount. Which is very, very much going to happen with the increase in prices on everything.

The only thing i could see is the term to be considered, is the 21 days, to be classed as living-away-from-home. Which i believe will be the case with our trip, as we have multiple conferences and meetings we want to attend.

Would this be covered? and if so what parts would not be covered?
