I engaged one supplier to do some projects(like patio, concrete floor ect), he quoted at $17000 and collected $8500 cash from me as its deposit and give me informal written reciept and his quote list in chinese version. this supplier do not provide formal tax invoice and also leave most of my projects unfinished. and now the supplier is playing "missing", is "the supplier not providing tax invoice for goods and service" illegal? whether ATO could assit me to get the tax invoice from this supplier? if it is illegal, which goverment departments i may report to? thanks
Hi HardyTang,
A supplier must provide a valid tax invoice within 28 days.
A penalty may be imposed on the supplier if they fail to issue a tax issue or makes a false statement on a tax invoice.
What you can do is request permission from us when you haven't received a tax invoice so you're able to claim your GST credit. The details of how to do this is on our when you can claim a GST credit page.
You can also make a tip-off to us. As the supplier is not doing the right thing and you can remain anonymous.
