Hi,

I purchased a product off amazon and when i received it, it was missing parts in it. I was allowed to keep the item however, Amazon partially refunded me due to the missing items.

My question is, what do i write when i lodge my taxes? do i write the total amount i paid before the partial refund, do i write the amount i paid minus the partial refund, or is this item no longer eligible for a tax deduction since this could count as being reimbursed for the item.

Thanks

Hi @Adro2376,

Let's keep this simple!

You're right in thinking, to claim a deduction one of the eligibility criteria is you've spent the money and you weren't reimbursed. Because you've received a partial reimbursement, if you meet the other eligibility criteria, you can claim the portion you weren't reimbursed.

Happy lodging!
