Hello,

I cannot access my MyGov and ATO account since I left Australia in 2021 and I don't have access to my old phone number anymore.

When I try to log in, it is asking me for a code sent to my old phone number and I don't have it anymore. In that case the page is recommending me to use MyGovID to log in.

I then created an account on MyGovID but my account is set as 'Basic' and it is required to have a 'Standard' account to access MyGov.

In order to upgrade my account to 'Standard' it is asking me different documents such as:

  • Australian Passport: I am not Australian
  • Australian Drivers License: It expired
  • Medicare number: It expired
  • Australian Birth Certificate: I am not Australian
  • ImmiCard Number: I don't have that

Basically, I don't have any of these documents in order to have access to my account.

I called ATO and the person on the phone asked me for the exact same documents as required on the App so he couldn't help me..

I need to have access to my MyGov and ATO because my old SuperFund sent my superannuation over to the ATO with over $900 of mine and I would like to withdraw it as I have now left Australia and I have the right to claim the Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP).

Could you please help me have access to my account as I would like to withdraw my superannuation as I am elegible to do so.

Best Regards,

Christophe

Hi @ChristopeRad,

Yes, you would need to have a strong MyGovID to be able to recover your existing myGov account. As it appears you don't have the documents to be able to do this.

You can setup a new myGov account with a different email address. You shouldn't have to give an Australian mobile number, but you might need to set up the myGov code generator app.

Where you could get stuck is when trying to link your myGov to ATO. As you will need answer 2 online questions about your tax record.

Check out our article on linking your myGov account to the ATO for information on this. If you're unable to it says to call us for a linking code which you won't be able to do. As you have no valid documents to verify.

You can apply for ATO-held superannuation instead by paper as an alternative option refer to our ATO-held super page.

Hope this helps.
