Computershare have sent me a "Form NR301 - Declaration of eligibility for benefits under a tax treaty for a non-resident taxpayer", in relation to obtaining a reduced rate of foreign withholding tax on "Interest, Dividends, and/or Royalties", or "Trust Income", received from a Canadian shareholding I have.

The form asks for a "Non-Canadian Tax Identification Number" (TAX ID #).

Should I disclose my Australian Tax File Number (TFN) here?

Hi @nauticalstyle,

I've checked out the Form NR301 on the Government of Canada website. If you're referring to part 3 and it says foreign tax identification number. I know you have mentioned the form says a non-Canadian tax identification. Not sure why they are different.

The link I provided mentions what a foreign tax identification number is a number that non-resident taxpayers use when reporting their income in their country of residence. So, if you live in Australia then yes it will be your Australian Tax File Number.

If still unsure might be best to speak to Government of Canada or Computershare.
