My spouse who is considered a dependent of mine cannot get adequate private patient hospital cover to exempt her from Medicare levy surcharge. This only due to her temporary visa status.

She is not eligible for Medicare and does not have it. She does have visitor cover with BUPA.

Our 2 children and I have Medicare and we have sufficient private patient hospital cover to exempt me from paying the Medicare levy surcharge.

I am still being charged the additional Medicare levy surcharge due to my spouse is considered as my dependent.

This seems extremely unfair that I have to pay this when I have appropriate private cover and my spouse is no burden on the medical system.
