Processed date 8 July 23. Effective date 14 July 23. Manual processing. Today is 15 Nov 23 and still waiting on refund. I called ATO on 18 Sept, 22 Sept, 5 Oct, 24 Oct, 10 Nov. Same old hollow, stock-standard answers "be patient", "we are very busy", "more returns this year than normal" etc. Status for the last 4 weeks has been "This Account has opening transactions that may affect the final balance". Supervisor told me on 10 Nov "I don't know why it's taking so long, I don't know what is holding it up, I don't know when it will be finalised, I don't know which external party is responsible". By any reasonable standard, 4+ months to manually process a tax return coupled with numerous "I don't knows" from an ATO supervisor is customer service at its worst. The refund amount is in 5 digits. If an ATO employee replies to this question, please respond with specific facts - as I have provided numerous specific facts.

Same here. Retired - same managed investment for past 20 years - BT Wholesale, so a major one. Their data matching doesn’t pick it up.


Received nothing apart from a text saying they contacted me in such a such date. Well that day I was with the Secretary for Correctional Services (I am a voluntary Magistrate). I spoke to no one from ATO. I received no phone call, text or email on that date.


Shades of Robodebt. They are effectively calling me a liar. No indication what they want. I am below the tax threshold so imputation credits just get refunded each year. I have sent through my Income Statement from the Fund several times, assuming that is what they want.


There is zero you can do. When I phoned up there was a BS message about 30 min waiting time. When it hit near that time they cut my call off so it wouldn’t be answered outside their KPI. Phoned back, same false promise. Answered 105 mins - nothing they could tell me apart from being under review. I did get the Data Matching email address and sent through the Income Statement. That was 3 months ago, and I resend it each month hoping it may prompt them.


I rely on this to live on for 4 months - Sept through Dec. Apart from their bullying text, accusing me of failing to follow up the initial contact, I have received nothing. No request for particular info/details they require. I don’t have deductions. Bank interest <$1 pa.


Not my fault they have ******** conducting the data matching.

Did you receive an email from AriATO (Community Support) on 17 Nov? I did. I gave him some personal info, but have not heard from Ari since and now wonder if it is legitimate? Have you heard back from Ari?

I am in the same situation. Going on four months now that my account has been sitting in credit. It's definitely at the point whereby I am concerned as to why I have not been issued my refund.

Hey @KLJC,


If you haven't spoken to us yet about the credit not issuing to you, it will be a good idea to do so. Once we have you on the phone we can investigate the issue if any, and work out where your refund is.
