Hi!

I can't find a clear answer in regards to this. If I have an office space where clients come to see me - can I claim artwork purchased solely for the office?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @EMM1991,

That's great that you have some artwork in your office 😊

If the artwork is not used to generate assessable income, the expense wouldn't be claimable.

I am adding a response as I completely disagree with the ATO's advice here.

Please refer to Effective Life 2015/1 of the ITAA 1997.

Artworks qualifying as depreciating assets (restricted to works of art and reproductions of artwork that are tangible in nature, such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, engravings and photographs, that are displayed in open viewing areas in premises used for taxable purposes including reception areas, waiting rooms and foyers).
