Hi there,


I am trying to obtain a Director ID as required and need to upgrade my MygovID to 'strong' in order to link my ABN, update my address and bank details with the ATO and apply for the ID.


I don't have an Australian passport and have therefore been trying to contact the help line (MyGovID/ATO/ABRS I have tried them all)for days without success - I either get hung up on or stay on hold for hours and it never gets picked up.


I'm being threatened with 'investigation and prosecution' if I don't obtain a directors ID (I tried to start this process months and months ago but have never managed to get anywhere or receive any response to my requests for help). Can someone please contact me directly???

Hello there @MH45,


This must be a very frustrating process and we want to save you time!


You can't get a strong identity strength without a passport. The help line can't change that for you. The ATO can link you to your ABN, but that needs to be done over the phone.


It looks like you already know you can apply for Director ID by phone with the ABRS. If you are not getting through, you could try calling first thing in the morning. This works best if you're on Australian Eastern standard daylight savings time though. If you're not you could try calling the ABRS/ ATO later in the afternoon.


That might not work for you though, we're all busy and there's so many things to do before the holidays! You might want to think about using the paper form on the ABRS website.


You can also update your details with the ATO by using a change of details form or through a tax agent.
