Hi, I applied TFN using TFN online form and i got my TFN number. But i am on my partner visa (820 subclass)pathway to get permanent residency (801 subclass) in next 2 years. I applied for TFN online form application by clicking on "Foreign passport holders, permanent migrants and temporary visitors – TFN application ??" Is this option correct? I am planning to be in Australia permanently and i will be working here. If this is not correct option to apply for TFN, Should i have applied under "Australian residents – TFN application?". I already got my TFN number couple of days back which i applied under "Foreign passport holders, permanent migrants and temporary visitors – TFN application ??". I havent submitted my tax declaration form to my employers yet. I am going to select "Australian resident for tax purpose" on that form. So if i am going to select that, what is the TFN category that i should have applied and got the number? Please help me with this question.

Hello @Nancyirene93,

Once you have a TFN that is yours. The different application processes are to enable people to apply as each persons situation doesn't always meet the basic application. Do not make multiple applications if you have already received your TFN as you will most likely just get a letter with the same TFN on it. The main thing is to pass the TFN to your employer and select the appropriate options on your withholding declaration. If you meet the requirements for an Australian resident for tax purposes then you can select that on the form. If you are unsure then you should check out the residency questions that help you determine your residency status for tax purposes.
