So I got a message claiming that they are the ‘ATO’. and mentioned that there was an immediate action required. They provided a hyperlink to their ‘website’. I pressed on the link and provided my email and password. But my password wasn’t my actual password for ato, but it still went through. Then proceeded to show sms code but I didn’t get a code.

I already changed my email and password but I am unsure if my account or banking details is compromised. What should I do next?

Hi @imsleeping

You have done the right thing by changing your passwords! Just make sure you have changed it for your email and your myGov.

As you have provided sensitive personal identifying information to the scammer, you should report the scam to us. You can do this by taking a screenshot of the SMS and email it to @ato.gov.au" target="_blank">ReportScams@ato.gov.au

Make sure you delete the SMS after you have reported it to us.

A helpful tip for spotting scams is that when we actually send a message, we will never send an unsolicited SMS that contains a hyperlink.

If you're not sure about a phone call, SMS or email its best to not click on anything and report it to us.
