I applied for Permanent Resident visa in 03/2023. I received my PR visa in 07/2023.

I enrolled in Medicare after becoming PR, which was in 08/2023, however my Medicare Entitlement Statement says I may be able to claim an exemption from the Medicare Levy in my tax return only for the period from 07/2022 to 03/2023.

Is there a way claim the remaining period i.e. exemption from the Medicare Levy for full tax year 2022/2023, since I enrolled in Medicare in 08/2023.

Thank you

Regards

Hello @Dodo2114

Most Australian residents have to pay the Medicare levy unless they meet the exemption criteria for the full year.

It sounds like you were a non-resident for part of the year so will only be exempt for the period you were a non-resident or not entitled to Medicare.
