Dear Community
I used to hold temporary visa and worked and earned some super. And I left Australia in Dec 2019 and came back in July 2023, and have been working since Aug 2023. During the time I was away, my super had been transferred to ATO as ATO held super.
I have been trying to transfer that super out to my nominated super fund but ATO website did not allow me to do so saying I am a former temporary resident and I can apply for DASP. But I do not want to withdraw my super as huge amount of tax would apply.
Have also tried ringing ATO Super hotline and the two ladies gave me two different answers.
The first lady I called said my residential status in ATO system was not picked up and the system still recognises me as if I'm overseas, and that's probably why ATO website doesn't allow me to transfer.
Then few months after, I called the second lady and she said my status has been corrected in the system in Oct 2023, but I still can't transfer my super and she said DASP is my only option as I am not a permanent resident.
I'm pretty sure before I left the country, I saw somewhere on ATO website saying I could transfer my super back to my super fund without any fees once I'm back but I could not find that piece of information anywhere.
Also on ATO website, under my profile -> personal details -> resident, it shows "no" but I did update my residential address. Not sure if this impacts super transfer as well.
Could anyone please advise how can I transfer my super out? This is bit frustrating.
Would very much appreciate your help :'(
Regards
Noah
