I don't have a mobile phone so I access MyGov using a secret question.

However, when I tried to link the ATO I was told that the ATO doesn't support secret question MyGov logins. As the only alternative is a Digital ID which also requires a mobile phone I therefore seem to be unable to link the ATO.

Any thoughts?

Hi @Bemusednophone,

You're correct. Because we require a higher standard of secuirty, you won't be able to link your myGov to our ATO Online services without using some kind of 2-factor authentication which does require a phone.

Previously it wasn't possible to login to my.gov and access the ATO service without a mobile phone (I was using someone elses which wasn't great).

A "pass-key" can now be used to login without requiring an SMS verification code (USB security keys work well, recommend "NitroKey 3" but there are many options available).

So now it's finally possible to file tax returns without having to own a mobile phone.

As someone who doesn't have a mobile phone this is much appreciated, but it works well if your out of the country too.
